We are located in Johor Bahru in Malaysia, only 5 kilometers from the causeway connecting JB to Singapore. Though we are just near the middle of the city and close by the new Danga Bay waterside development, you will be impressed by the large garden surrounding the charming, old world buildings in such quiet surroundings.
BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
The school was formed due the overwhelming support from expatriate and Malaysian parents who had been with our Chairman, Puan Nooraini Mohd. Yasin, since she was heading the International School of Johor.
ARA INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL
Ara International School is a private, co-educational international school for students aged from 5 to 16 years. It has very much a family ethos where all staff know all the students and vice versa. Though small, it has a dynamic atmosphere and potential growth rate.
*Primary Department - Year 1 to 6
The curriculum follows the Cambridge International Primary programme, typically for 5-11 year olds, gives a curriculum framework to develop English, Mathematics, and Science skills, knowledge and understanding in younger learners.
*Cambridge Secondary 1 - Year 7, 8 and 9
We offer a flexible curriculum with integrated assessment. During these three years, typically for 11-14 year old, we follow an adapted English National Curriculum that takes into account the style of the primary years programme of the country the students come from, the varied nationalities and cultures of our students, and develops learners' skills and understanding in Mathematics, English and Science for the first three years of secondary education and provides excellent preparation for Cambridge Secondary 2 and qualifications including Cambridge IGCSE.
At the end of Lower Secondary, students can sit Cambridge Checkpoint tests which provide detailed feedback on students' strengths and weaknesses before they move into the 14-16/IGCSE/O Level stage.
*Cambridge Secondary 2 - Year 10 and 11
Cambridge Secondary 2 is typically for learners aged 14-16 years. This is a British course which is popular with the majority of non-American schools. IGCSE are exams taken by all English students in Year 11. It involves course work in some subjects and an external examination at the end of two years in all subjects. Exam papers come from the University of Cambridge International Examinations Centre in the UK and are sent there for external marking. Normally students take between 7 and 10 IGCSE subjects. It builds on the foundations of Cambridge Secondary 1, and supports schools using learner-centred and enquiry-based approaches to learning. Cambridge Secondary 2 offers two options for Cambridge learners: Cambridge IGCSE (the International General Certificate of Secondary Education) and Cambridge O Level - both globally recognised qualifications. Cambridge Secondary 2 provides excellent progression to the next stage of Cambridge International Education - Cambridge Advanced for 16-19 years - as well as other progression routes.

Garden International School is the largest private, co-educational, international school in Malaysia. Established in 1951, GIS provides a British-style education to the expatriate and local community in Kuala Lumpur. Since then, the School has undergone a period of sustained development, culminating in the relocation of the main campus to a large purpose-built site in a residential suburb of Kuala Lumpur in 1996.
